Rain Delay…

Brief post…very short.

As of Monday AM the forecast in New Zealand was for rain for the next four to five days.  Which means the yard would be able to do little work, and we’d be sitting on the hard over the weekend and into next week.

We decided to wait for a week, so we’ll haul next Monday instead and hope to get back in before the weekend.

In the meantime…the freezer stopped working!

And of course we let all the food run down in anticipation of the lack of refrigeration…

On the plus side, a friend has offered us the use of their car for a bit which is fantastic!

Hi BJ we meet a couple of years ago in Union Island and you helped me trouble shoot my alternator, had a couple of beers at happy island after……any ways we are going through the Panama Canal January 2017 and know that the Kiwi’s and Aussies are particular about the type of anti foul you use on your boat…….what brands are legal in those countries

    Kind Regards

Hey Richard! It’s been a long time since Union island!

No on asked us what we had on when we got here. In fact we had the same paint on when we arrived here that we left with in the states, it was so awesome. I didn’t get the impression that what brand/tyoe of bottom paint arriving foreign yachts had on was really on their radar. They were more concerned that your bottom was clear of growth when you arrived so you weren’t tracking anything in with you.

Most restrictions here are on what you can buy or apply. Interlux products do seem to be available (though the brand is “International”, and a few local brands you likely won’t be able to get before you get here anyway. We used something called “Altex No. 5” last year. It was pretty crappy we thought, at least compared to the Blue Water Copper Pro SCX67 we put on in 2012 that kept us more clean after two years than this stuff did after two months. No Blue Water paints here though, sadly.

Check here for what we can buy at the local chandlery:

  2. Thanks BJ that’s good to hear, we haven’t renewed our anti foul this year as we were going to put International micron 66 on when we got to Panama…..so hopefully we should be set when we get to NZ…….we enjoy reading your blog as you pave the way for our trip to the Southern Hemisphere …….hope you and the family are all doing well
