And Now for Something Completely Different…
There is a new problem. Apparently freshwater system has been leaking a bit, and doing so onto the exhaust muffler. This has lead to rust and a couple of pinhole leaks. Not a great scenario, as the whole muffler must be replaced not just the rusty pit. However, this is Read On..

Go North, Young Man…Not
Or…how not to take down your spinnaker in several painful steps…or, Summer Vacation, part deux. Of course make our best effort to take as much of our vacation in the summer on the boat – with Junior Sailing now crowding the schedule we generally end up with one towards the Read On..

More P&M about….pumps. And smells.
On our recent vacation we noticed a very distinctive and odd odor. While boat odors are not “normal” in the sense that your boat shouldn’t stink, there are certain odors that are more…common. The “Head Smell”, when something is fouled and wrong with the lavatory, the “Dead Sea Things Smell” Read On..

For lack of a more pithy word – BLECH!
The head is of course the worst part of the boat to deal with. Outside of losing a couple of fingers in a fan belt, which would no doubt suck, what is the worst that can happen anywhere else? Oil, dirt, grease, stinky critters, sea slime and various toxins? Only Read On..

Reconstruction Begins
Woot woot! The bolts are here, they started putting Evenstar back together today. Vickie from H-R parts, in the extremely unlikely event that I have a third child I will name it after you, even if it is a boy. You rock.

Look Ma! No Rudder!
One must take some amusement as this ghastly cutlass bearing project careens out of control. If nothing else, you can REALLY see where the Swedes build a really big, tough boat. This is a picture of where the rudder used to be. No, that’s not the rudder – it’s just Read On..

It Never Ends…
The little joys of boat ownership are without number. I really DO love boats and owning them, but every now and then something happens that makes you shake your head and wonder just what we are thinking. This time it is Swedish engineering. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the Read On..

Raw Water & Parts Fiascos
A small problem noted in a survey a while back has become a large problem through sheer stupidity and ignorance on my part. It was noted when we bought Evenstar that the “Raw Water Pump” was leaking and needed placement or repair. This is something with a lesser capacity for Read On..

So it wasn’t my fault.
The block we blew up was wimpy, really. OK, apparently these things have in fact been exploding…in the United States. In Europe, the original blocks from Hallberg-Rassy have been up to the task. Apparently in the States we get a bunch of ex-race boat owners like me that go and Read On..

Blowing Stuff Up
My rigger misses me, I can tell. Back in the days when I was racing my old boat hard, I was in a couple of times each week. Usually because I had bent or broken something while pushing boat too hard. Of course the number of times I broke something Read On..
